Recently, I was asked to review the new AllStarBuddies.com website and I'm happy to report that what I found was a unique, fun and educational site!

AllStarBuddies.com is a new sports-themed virtual world website for kids 6+ where a healthy, positive lifestyle is reinforced through fun games and safe social interaction. There are individual and multi-player games, where children learn about problem-solving, goal setting, good sportsmanship, teamwork, fitness and good nutrition – all while having fun!

Created by two moms, AllStarBuddies.com is based in the fictional town of “Varsity Heights,” where members receive a user id and password for their own, private account.

Once registered, members can log in to the world and select one of seven sports-themed, animated characters as their onscreen persona and engage in classic arcade-style games, sports-themed games, as well as activities geared towards learning.



The seven All-Star Buddies include:

* Ace (Baseball)
* Blitz (Football)
* Swish (Basketball)
* Deke(Hockey)
* Striker (Soccer)
* Deuce (Tennis)
* Chip (Golf)

Children can also collect the seven All Star Buddies plush toys which are available for purchase at selected specialty toy and gift stores. The characters include a unique, promotional code that children can enter online to receive extra privileges in Varsity Heights.

Fun, unique and educational, while teaching important values and lessons that every kid should know. A wonderful website that you children will love. Grab a buddy and have a ball!

REI's Kids Passport to Adventure Program

Here's a chance for your kids to get a free pair of binoculars or a whistle when they finish one outdoor activity.

The REI's Kids Passport to Adventure Program shows your children how rewarding it can be to spend time in the outdoors. The program is designed for kids aged 5-12, and is a fun way to connect your children to the natural world and start them on a lifetime of outdoor recreation and stewardship.

Download the Adventure Journal from the REI website or pick up a journal in any REI store. Your children can then document their hikes, bike rides and other fun times. After they have finished one outdoor activity, you can send in the tear-off postcard from the journal or fill out REI's online form to get a certificate of completion and a special prize — binoculars or a whistle!

Mattel is offering a free Geotrax "Steamer & Samuel Save the Day" DVD.

We have had Geotrax offers posted before on Fun 4 The Children with many happy moms and dads when they received their free DVD's.

Three Fee-Free Weekends in Your National Parks

Grab the kids and visit national parks such as the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Rocky Mountain National Park, with three fee-free weekends this summer.

National parks plan 3 free summer weekends - Associated Press:

"WASHINGTON - The National Park Service will allow visitors free entry during three weekends this summer to encourage Americans to visit national parks such as the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and Rocky Mountain National Park.

The fee waivers - one each month in June, July and August - will apply to all 391 national parks across the country, from Alaska to Florida.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said the free weekends should help American families struggling with the recession afford a memorable vacation.

All 147 Park Service sites that charge fees for entry will waive entrance fees from June 20-21, July 18-19 and August 15-16, Salazar said.

Entry fees being waived range from $3 to $25. That does not apply to fees charged for camping, reservations, tours or concessions."

The fee-free weekends summer 2009:

* June 20-21, 2009 (Father’s Day weekend)
* July 18-19, 2009
* August 15-16, 2009

Rose Coloring Pages

June is National Rose Month in the United States. "Since 1986 the rose has been the official National Floral Emblem of the United States and the rose is the official state flower of: the District of Columbia, Georgia, Iowa, New York, and North Dakota."

Parents, to help celebrate National Rose Month, you can take your children or grandchildren out to the garden and show them how to plant and care for roses.

We decide to add some rose coloring pages to Fun 4 The Children as part of the celebration.

Your children and/or grandchildren can print out these pages (with your help if needed) and help celebrate this month by giving a rose coloring page to someone to say "I'm thinking of you", "Thank you", "You're special to me" or "I love you"!

I've listed a generalization of colors and their meaning:

Red - symbolizes love and romance
White - symbolizes innocence
Yellow - is for friendship
Pink - is for gratitude and appreciation
Orange - is for enthusiasm
Purple - is for enchantment.

Grab the crayons, markers, stickers, glitter glue and whatever else you want to use to decorate your rose coloring pages and join in the celebration!

Free AudibleKids Audio Book Downloads

"To support children’s literacy, AudibleKids is working with Reading Is Fundamental, Inc. (RIF), the nation’s oldest and largest nonprofit children’s and family literacy organization, to motivate all children to become readers."

Here's your chance to get some wonderful free children's audio book downloads from audible.com.

Some titles that are available as of this posting include: Rapunzel, Rip Van Winkle, Peter Pan in Scarlet, The Emperor's New Clothes and a few more.

Your children can listen to these audio books on your computer, iPod, MP3 player, or whatever else you use to listen to audio books.

I'm not sure if they change the books after some time so be sure to check back to their site and check for new books.

H-E-Buddy 2009 Summer Reading Club

Here's another book reading club to help encourage your children to continue reading throughout the summer. It's called the H-E-Buddy Reading Club and your child will receive some cool prizes just for reading ten books.

The H-E-Buddy 2009 Summer Reading Club started May 18, 2009. Participating in the club is very easy:

Have your children pick out and read 10 books. Parents are allowed to read to their children if they are too young to read.

List each book your child reads and log it on the H-E-Buddy Reading Club Form. Parents must initial by the books read on the H-E-Buddy Reading Club form.

Send your completed form to H-E-Buddy's Summer Reading Club to reward your child with a cool prize. Your form must be postmarked by August 9, 2009

Looks like this years prize is a t-shirt. I don't see anything about other prizes but last years prizes were a H-E-Buddy Reading Club certificate, t-shirt and a 20 point sticker (hopefully it's the same this year).

Kid Jam - West Hills, California

West Hills Church puts on an annual Kid Jam (a free, non profit event) which is an outreach program for children ages 3 to 12 years of age. There will be drawings, petting zoo, jumper, puppet show, games, prizes, face painting, food and bible stories.

Chuck E. Cheese Children's Reward Calendars

Here's a fun way to reward your children for some of their accomplishments. Download and print out you choice of twelve different calendars and then mark of the days as your children accomplish their special goals.

2. Mark the days off with a pen or sticker as your child accomplishes their goals

Just a note, when you complete and bring these calendars into Chuck E. Cheese you are required to make a food purchase.

You could also use these at home and instead of taking the completed reward calendars to Chuck E. Cheese, you could make up your own rewards to give to your children.

The calendar coupon offer expires 12/31/09. I not sure if they will still offer the calendars without the rewards after that date.

REG Free Family Film Festival Beginning June 2009!

The Free Family Film Festival is provided by Regal theatres and provides free selected G and PG movies for kids and parents with a nine week schedule during the summer (USA only).

I had this posted on Fun 4 The Children last year for the 2008 summer and received great response from the readers of this blog, not to mention the fun times my children had as we visited their theatres three times!

Information from Regal Theatres: "When school’s out, kids around the country visit selected Regal theatres for the Free Family Film Festival. It’s a fun-filled nine weeks of movies for kids and parents. Since 1991, Regal has provided this service to the community, and best of all it’s FREE!

Selected G & PG movies start at 10AM each Tuesday and Wednesday during the festival. First-come, first-served seating is limited to theatre capacity. The Free Family Film Festival is safe, lots of fun and a great way for kids to spend a weekday morning in the summer."

To find a participating Regal theatre for the Free Family Film Festival, visit their website and select the state you reside in. It will show you the dates of the movies playing and the names of the movies playing on those dates.

Free Children's Ebook Mom "I've Lost My Imagination"

Mom I've Lost My Imagination is a free children's ebook that you can download and read to your children off your computer screen, or print out and read.

Written by Campfire McSquash, "Mom I've Lost My Imagination is about a young boy who can't find his imagination. Perhaps purple space monkeys stole it? Or a squishy octopus holds it captive in its clamshell jail? Or may be the young boy never lost his imagination to begin with."

The book is aimed at children between the ages of 3 to 8 years of age. It's a cute story with wonderful illustrations that I believe your children will enjoy.

TD Bank Summer Reading Program

TD Bank is offering a Summer Reading Program for your children. If your child reads ten (10) book over the summer, TD Bank will deposit $10. into their new or existing Young Savers account.

Just print out the form on the TD Bank website, fill it out with the ten (10) books you child reads and bring it to your local TD Bank to get $10.

This is another nice program being run to get your children to read more over the summer months.

As per the TD Bank website - "One coupon per customer during the promotion period. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Valid May 4, 2009 through September 30, 2009. Bring form of ID for child for a new account opening.

Mother's Day Crafts For Kids

I believe that some of the best Mother's Day gifts are the ones made by your children, made with love and from the heart.
